This practical on-your-feet workshop will give actors and directors the opportunity to learn and practice the unique skills and awareness required to effectively play on a large thrust stage. Offered in two parts – movement and voice – this workshop will be led by two artists who have worked with countless actors and directors on the Guthrie’s signature thrust stage and many other large spaces. By working on the Wurtele Thrust, participants will learn how to approach any epic theatrical playing space.
6 – 8 p.m.: Marcela Lorca, longtime movement director at the Guthrie, will give students a crash course on how to balance the complex physical demands of playing to an audience on three sides.
8:10 – 10 p.m.: Jill Walmsley Zeger, a vocal coach at the Guthrie, will provide actors with practical considerations and exercises to ensure every audience member in the 1,100 seat house can hear each and every line.
