Stage Combat MN is offering multiple affordable training opportunities for performers this summer!
Sundays June 3-August 12
10AM -11:30AM: Specialty Series. This weekly workshop course will feature a variety of different disciplines in an easy drop-in-drop out format. Each class will be $20, or you can subscribe in the whole course for $150. These classes will be taught by a variety of artists, including both locals and maybe a traveler or two. Our first class will be on falling safely. More information on these class topics TBD.
12PM - 3PM: Fighting for Film. This class will center around what performers need to know in order to portray violence safely and effectively for tv and film. Students will deepen their understanding of the fight filming process, learning about body mechanics and angles as well as cinematography and editing. Class will culminate in brief edited fight scenes akin to professional previs.
3:30PM - 6:30PM: SAFD Knife Skills Test Course. Knife is one of the most cross-training applicable styles of stage combat you can study. The level of specificity you develop as a performer when working with such a focused weapon is a useful tool even outside of a fight scene. Playing the danger of the weapon unlocks sense of heightened stakes that can be applied to any moment of violence. On top of that, knives are one of the most common weapons onstage, from contemporary drama to adapted versions of classic works. Easily one of the most useful disciplines an american performer can learn. At the completion of this course, students will have the option to test for certification through the Society of American Fight Directors.
7PM - 10PM: Overflow section. Whichever of the Knife or Camera classes receives more enrollment will unlock access to an evening class section for added student flexibility.
The cost for the camera and knife classes is $300 each, $550 if enrolled in both. Flexible payment plans available.
